Hi Postgressians,

I am having some compiling problems with postgre4.2 om my Linux
machine (1.2 kernel and gcc 2.6.3). I cannot get bmake to make so that
I am able to bmake all. :-) Before I get more specific I am just
wondering if there is perhaps a binary around ... I have 4.0.1a
already but would like 4.2. BTW... I have installed postgres95 on
LInux - that compiled easily ...but I would like to play around with some
of the available contribs for the earlier version... alberi and
pgbrowse for instance.

The plan is to prototype a new database at my job to replace (or at
least get people thinking about replacing) the hoary old mumps cadaver
that we are presently enslaved to. To that end... I will also be
compiling the newer SQL postgres for aix. It doesn't go on that
platform either but I am wondering if that is because we are at 3.2.3
and not 3.2.5. I am planning that upgrade soon.

So: Any help for compiling 4.2 on Linux and 95 on aix (or even 4.2)?

I checked the unofficial ports list but could not find anything on
s2k-ftp.CS.Berkeley.EDU for 4.2 Linux as semmed to be indicated.

Thank you, any help is much appreciated.

Kira

I could put a 4.2 binary to s2k-ftp.CS.Berkeley.EDU, but there is
no incoming directory available. Included is an X11 Interface called
pgbrowse (you need tcl, tk, blt and tclX libs to use it). the package
size is about 1MB.

I have compiled postgres95 under Linux, but the parser does not work
correct - perhaps a bison / flex problem...

Bye, Olaf

There are official ports for both Postgres 4.2 and Postgres95 (Beta0.02)
on AIX 3.2.5 from s2k-ftp.CS.Berkeley.EDU. I just installed Postgres95
(Beta0.02); there are 4 warnings when compilation. if use -O, not -g,
executable of Postgres in Postgres95 is smaller than one in Postgres 4.2;
regression test is passed within 35 minutes for Postgres95.

For Postgres95 the major difference between obj/regress.out and
sample.regress.out is from querying views. i don't know if it is right
or not.

Good Luck.

mike
