This is a preliminary release of POSTGRES version 4 release 2.

If you have installed and run POSTGRES in the past I would be
interested in hearing on how your installation went.  We don't expect 
any code changes from this alpha release we've made some major
botch and it doesn't compile/install/run.  That is, if all goes
reasonable well, this directory will just be renamed as the
final 4.2 release.

If you have never installed POSTGRES before, we don't recommend you
try this out as we'd like some of the experienced POSTGRES users to try
it first.  

If you run into any major problems installing or running this release
on the _supported platforms only_ then please send me some personal
email first to marc@toe.cs.berkeley.edu rather than to the whole postgres 
group so I have a chance to fix things up in case I botched something
trivial.
