<TITLE> Search Help and Hints

<normal> Type a short statement about what you are interested in.
The system will attempt to retrieve the documents that best
match this statement. (NOTE: there are few documents in
the demo database, so your "interests" better be limited
to the POSTGRES DBMS)

Documents that contain ANY keywords from the query will
be retrieve and ranked according to a probabilistic
formula that includes such things as how many words they
have in common with the query, and the frequency of those
words in the document text and in relation to the other
documents in the collection.

<SUBTITLE> Editing the search:

<normal> You can add characters by pointing, clicking and typing.

You can delete by selecting and typing Control-d.
Backspace, Control-h, and Delete may be typed to erase
the character just before the insertion point, and
Control-u clears the entry.

For entries that are too large to fit in the window all
at once, you can scan through the entries using the
scrollbars, or by dragging with mouse button 3 (right)
pressed.

Click the
<raised> Retrieve
<normal> button to start the search, or the
<raised> Cancel
<normal> button to exit without submitting the search.

Click the
<raised> Last Search
<normal> button to recall and edit the
previous search statement (when there is one).

<SUBTITLE> BUGS:

<normal> This is using an early version of the text
retrieval software for POSTGRES, and may not give
the best rankings yet -- it needs tuning.
