Hi,
I'm new to Postgres and always get the following error message when
trying to create a database with 'createdb bernd':

FATAL: database template1 does not exist, bailing out...

I get this message even though the directory
$PGDATA/base/template1 does exist on my system and seems to
contain the template database (a bunch of pg_... files).

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Bernd
