The postgres alpha porting group is probably already aware of this but
just 
in case, I wouldn't want to be the one who didn't pass it along.  We just
received OSF1 1.3 and it claims to have a new ld flag ("-taso") which 
seems to put things in the low 32 bits and support "truncated pointers"
-- eg pointer <-> 32-bit int compatibility.

Hope this is of some interest.
