Dear Postgres group,

When adding a new access method, I bumped into the following problem. 
How do I distinguish a tree pointer from a object pointer in an index tuple.
In the R-tree only one type does exsist for every node, but in my
access method the Reactive-tree, a tree node can contain both 
object pointer as tree pointers. Is there some mechanism to distinguise these?
